The Russian Language in Independent Uzbekistan

The status of the Russian language in Uzbekistan has undergone a clear overall decline since 1991, driven by demographic change, state-led Uzbekization policies, and shifting generational attitudes. Yet despite this downward trajectory, Russian continues to occupy an important functional niche.
