Macron’s most vocal opponents have tended to criticize his way of governing by accusing him of authoritarianism or illiberalism. This paper takes a practice approach to study whether or not those accusations are well founded. It ultimately argues for a mixed answer which should be observed in the context of an international shift away from the liberal democratic framework.
